I am also feeling depressed and panicked and heartbroken about trans hate and I’m not trans and don’t have trans children. Technically, my partner fits under the trans umbrella but only within queer discourse—not the broad understanding of what “trans” means. I admire the resilience and tenacity of trans people right now, especially ones who are able to self-regulate and patiently teach and love. It’s hero work and saintly and infuriating and excruciating and it’s exactly what stands a chance of shifting people.
