Well, I don't think the argument I made was that being transphobic is evil. But I get what you're saying about hurling labels and I spoke to that recently in a series of Instagram posts that essentially make up a short essay.
There isn't just one argument to be made here. I think that in order to reduce conflict that goes out in multiple directions from multiple directions for multiple reasons, it can be helpful to get people to try to understand what their critics are saying. If everyone could think about their own critics, and empathize with their view even a little, they could calm down a little and take on a countenance of humility even just a little. And it would go a long way to being able to have back and forth discussions with some specificity instead of these grand dogmatic statements.
That's why the analogy is just good-ish. It only speaks to a couple of points.
This one essay is a part of something bigger that I started writing. But the whole topic is huge. The topic of how to solve social conflict and create social progress without creating backlash movements... it's a book, not an essay. I've been chipping away at it in several essays and on Instagram, but all of it is a distraction from my main project right now which focuses on mother oppression.
To your question about some transphobia being required, I get what you're saying. You're using the definition of "afraid of the consequences of trans advocacy". But I don't think a QUESTION has to be transphobic. I think it's transphobic to have objections without any investigation and open-mindedness. If we're just asking the question, "Are there any unfair consequences here?" and we're rigorously canvassing for "no" evidence as much as "yes" evidence, that's not transphobic. Starting out assuming the worst will literally limit the evidence you're able to recognize and the solutions you're able to come up with. That's not fair.
Agree that boxing is outrageous. That said, I badly want to learn boxing. I just don't want to hurt anyone's brain or have mine hurt. They should invent boxing helmet airbag things where you just get points for making contact but the blow is cushioned. WHY DO I GOTTA COME UP WITH ALL THE DESIGN SOLUTIONS?! 😜😂
